The NextGen field test is a timed, computer-based exam that participants take on their own laptops using a test delivery application called SecureClient. The field test consists of multiple-choice questions and short- and medium-length written responses. All participants are given 120 minutes to complete the field test. Questions are displayed in 12-point (16 pixel) Arial font. Please note that without test accommodations, participants cannot change the text size or open other text reader programs on their laptop during the field test.
For information about how to prepare for the field test, visit NextGen Field Test Participant Information.
Below is a list of test accommodations that may be available for the field test, depending on testing location and other factors; it does not represent all accommodations that may be available for future NCBE studies or exams. Participants will have an option to select one of the accommodations below when they sign up.
IMPORTANT: For the purposes of the field test, NCBE will not evaluate the appropriateness of accommodations for the individual’s specific functional limitations in relation to the testing environment. Instead, we are asking participants to request accommodations from the list below that best meet their needs. Receipt of accommodations for the field test does not constitute evidence of a functional limitation and should not be referenced on accommodations requests for future standardized examinations, including the bar exam or MPRE. NCBE will not consider proof of accommodations on the field test when reviewing requests for accommodations on the MPRE, and proof of field test accommodations will have no bearing on the approval of MPRE accommodations.
