NCBE is looking for lawyers and legal educators who want to contribute to the profession and shape the bar exam of the future by serving on our Content Scope Committee. These individuals will assist us in developing test content specifications to delineate the scope of coverage of the Foundational Concepts and Principles (FC&P) and the Foundational Skills that will be measured on the next generation of the bar exam.

We are seeking

  • newly licensed lawyers with 1-3 years of experience practicing law
  • experienced lawyers who work closely with newly licensed lawyers
  • lawyer members of the bar admissions community (bar examiners, graders, administrators)
  • members of the judiciary
  • legal educators (doctrinal, academic success/bar readiness, clinical/experiential, legal research & writing, deans)

The time commitment for serving on the Content Scope Committee will involve four half-day virtual meetings (tentatively planned for July, August, October, and November) and approximately 25 hours of pre- and post-meeting work over the course of the project. NCBE will pay an honorarium to participants for their service.

The subjects included in the FC&P for which test content specifications will be developed are Business Associations, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts. The Foundational Skills include Legal Research, Legal Writing, Issue Spotting & Analysis, Investigation & Evaluation, Client Counseling & Advising, Negotiation & Dispute Resolution, and Client Relationships & Management.

Content Scope Committee members will be selected to ensure that the Committee is balanced in terms of demographic and geographic diversity, as well as diversity in practice areas, roles, and employment settings. We will notify applicants in early June to let them know whether they have been selected.
