Hon. Phyllis D. Thompson has been an Associate Judge on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals since 2006. She serves as the liaison to the court’s Committee on Admissions and was a member of that Committee before being appointed to the bench. She was the first African American woman partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling LLP, where she practiced for almost 25 years. Prior to her graduation from law school, she was on the faculty of Georgetown University. Judge Thompson has been a member of the NCBE Board of Trustees since 2014 and chairs its Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is also a member of the Council of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. She received her BA and JD from the George Washington University and a master’s degree from Princeton University.
