The Bar Examiner’s latest quarterly update on the NextGen bar exam takes an in-depth look at the interconnected stages of research testing—pilot, field, and prototype—that will be performed over the next few years as part of the NextGen exam development process. Read the full column on the Bar Examiner website.

The first stage of this research, pilot testing, began in 2022 and will continue into 2023; field testing will begin following completion of the pilot testing phase. Twenty-two law schools are participating in the initial rounds of pilot testing, in which law students and recent graduates who are engaged in school-sponsored bar preparation programs answer draft questions in a two- or three-hour session, followed by a feedback session. Law schools that are interested in participating in future phases of this research should complete this online form.
