The NextGen Bar Exam is being developed based on the recommendations from the Testing Task Force, which were approved by NCBE’s Board of Trustees in January 2021. The recommendations are the culmination of the Task Force’s three-year, comprehensive, empirical study to ensure that the bar examination continues to assess the minimum competencies required of newly licensed lawyers in an evolving legal profession, and to determine how those competencies should be assessed. The Task Force’s research is documented in its Phase 1, 2, and 3 reports.
